How to Measure for Your Fixed or Retractable Awnings
To get the right size motorized or lateral arm awning for your home, simply follow the easy instructions below and download the details and illustration at right. Examples of colors and fabric selections can be found at the Sunbrella website.
1. Measure the height of the wall where you want to install your awning. You need at least 7 ft. 6 in. from your deck or patio floor to the bottom of any roof, eave, or overhang for a standard awning. If you don't have this much clearance, an affordable customized awning can be created.
2. Measure along the side of your house to decide how wide an awning you want. While standard awnings come in pre-cut widths, custom awnings can be created to fit any area up to 40 feet wide.
3. Measure to make sure you have at least 8 inches of clear, unobstructed space horizontally along your wall where the awning will mount against the house.
